How we rank products and offers

This page explains the main parameters that decide the order of results on Shopilo Deals Ireland and our paid relationships with shops, as required by EU consumer law, in particular Directive (EU) 2019/2161 (the Omnibus Directive) on the transparency of ranking and of paid relationships, and Regulation (EU) 2019/1150 (the P2B Regulation).

Shopilo Deals is a price comparison service. The shop sells and ships your order. We may earn a commission when you buy through our links, which never changes the order of offers. Prices can change: the price on the shop's site applies.

1. What Shopilo Deals is

Shopilo Deals is a price comparison service. We do not sell anything: the shop sells and ships your order and its terms apply. We may earn a commission when you buy through our links. Prices and availability can change at any time: the price shown on the shop's website at checkout is the one that applies.

2. Which shops and products we show

  • We show shops whose product data we receive, mostly through affiliate networks, and that we have enabled for price comparison in this country. We do not cover every shop on the market.
  • A product is listed only if at least one shop currently offers it, it has an image, and its price is plausible (feed placeholder prices are excluded).

3. Order of offers on a product page

  • We show one offer per shop: the shop's lowest-priced offer for that product, preferring offers in stock.
  • Offers in stock come first, sorted by item price from lowest to highest. The first one is marked as the best price.
  • Offers marked out of stock are listed separately, below the offers in stock.
  • The sort uses the item price. Delivery costs are not included in the sort; we show them next to the offer when the shop provides them.
  • Next to each offer we show how long ago it was last checked.
  • Prices more than 5 times above or below the median of the shops' prices are treated as data errors (for example a wrong currency) and are not shown as prices.

4. Order of products in categories, stores and search

Category, store and search pages offer several sort options. The price, discount and number of shops on a product card come from the same offers as the product page: for each shop, its lowest-priced offer in stock in this country's currency; prices more than 5 times above or below the median of those shop prices are treated as data errors and are not used.

  • Relevance (default, "Recommended") on category and store pages: products listed by more shops in our catalogue come first; with the same number of shops, the most recently added first. On some category pages, consecutive variants of the same model are spread out so that one model does not fill the page.
  • Relevance in search results: we first select products whose title contains all your search words (the last word can be the start of a word) or whose barcode matches exactly. They are ordered by a text relevance score, then by number of shops. Points are added when your words appear in that order in the title (+3), at the start of the title (+2), when the product's brand is one of your words (+2), and when the product belongs to the most common category or brand among the matching products or costs at least their median price (+1 each). Points are subtracted for accessories you did not search for, such as cases, cables or chargers, or titles like "case for <your words>" (-6), and for repeated identical titles (-2).
  • A search reads at most 1,500 matching products offered by two or more shops and 400 offered by a single shop, plus, when there are more matches, up to 1,000 single-shop products that are not accessories (fewer with a price, discount, shop or delivery filter). At most 2,400 of them are listed (480 with such a filter).
  • Price low to high / high to low: the price shown on the product card, that is the lowest of the product's shop offers described above (item price, delivery not included). When you select a shop, that shop's price is used.
  • Biggest discount: the discount percentage of that same offer (or of the selected shop's offer), as reported by the shop against its own previous or reference price. Ties are ordered by number of shops.
  • Newest: products most recently added to our catalogue first.
  • Filters (brand, price range, shop, discount, free delivery, compared products) narrow the results; they do not change the order. A price, discount or delivery filter is met when one of the product's shop offers meets it; "compared products" means at least two shops.
  • Limits: to keep pages fast, a listing works inside a window of products. A category page considers its 2,400 products listed by the most shops, and the price, discount and newest sorts order those products, not the whole catalogue. With a price, discount or free delivery filter we check the 1,500 products listed by the most shops and show at most 480 matches. A shop page reads up to 4,000 offers of that shop and shows at most 480 products. When a limit is reached the count is shown with "+", and when nothing is found within the limit we say so instead of reporting that no product exists.
  • While the price or discount order of a category is still being prepared, the page shows the recommended order and says so.
  • Search suggestions (autocomplete) show frequent search phrases and brands from our catalogue, a few products whose title starts with or contains your words (products sold by more shops first), and related categories and shops. They are not paid placements.

5. Home page, retailers and the "Top Partner" label

  • Home page sections, such as the most compared products and the category shelves, are selected automatically by the number of shops listing a product; their prices come from the same shop offers as the product page.
  • The retailers directory is ordered by number of live offers.
  • "Top Partner" is a label we give to selected shops. These shops can be filtered in the retailers directory and, on our Romanian site, are listed first there and in the home page shop list. The label does not change the order of products in listings or of offers on product pages.

6. Paid relationships

Shopilo Deals is free for shoppers. We are paid by shops, directly or through affiliate networks such as Awin, CJ Affiliate or 2Performant, when you click through and buy. Links to shops are marked as sponsored links in our code.

Whether a shop pays a commission, and how much, is not a ranking parameter. There are no paid placements or sponsored positions in our listings or offer tables. If we ever add paid placements, they will be clearly labelled as advertising.

7. Prices, discounts and updates

Prices, stock and discounts come from the shops' data and are refreshed regularly, so they can differ from the shop's website for a short time. Previous prices and discount percentages are those reported by the shop. Where we have collected our own price history for a product, we show it on the product page.

We do not publish customer reviews or ratings.
